| Thermo Fisher Scientific Announces Cost-Effective Glutathione Agarose for GST-Tagged Protein Purification | 06/08/2010 | |
Thermo Fisher Scientific Announces Cost-Effective
Glutathione Agarose for GST-Tagged Protein Purification ROCKFORD, Ill. (August 5, 2010) – Thermo
Fisher Scientific, the world leader in serving science, today introduced the
Thermo Scientific Pierce Glutathione Agarose family of products for cost-effective
purification of GST-tagged proteins from cellular lysates. Pierce Glutathione
Agarose consists of glutathione linked to agarose beads though a 12-atom spacer
which minimizes steric hindrance effects during purification. The 6 percent
beaded agarose and highly purified glutathione limit nonspecific binding and
result in a high binding capacity of greater than 25mg of GST per milliliter of
settled resin. The purification resin can be reused at least five times without
loss in functionality. The affinity purification of GST-tagged proteins using Pierce Glutathione Agarose is a simple, one-step process. Bound GST-tagged proteins are easily eluted with a buffer containing Thermo Scientific Reduced Glutathione. If the GST fusion protein contains a Factor Xa protease site, then the protein can be cleaved from the GST tag with Thermo Scientific Factor Xa.
Pierce Glutathione Agarose is available in numerous formats and as a standalone resin. Prepacked spin columns in a number of bed volumes are supplied alone or in kits. In addition, Pierce Glutathione Agarose comes in prepacked chromatography cartridges for FPLC applications.
For more information on Pierce Glutathione Agarose products, please call +1-815-968-0747 or visit www.thermoscientific.com/pierce.

| Thermo Fisher Scientific Offers New Protein Labeling Tools for Mass Spectrometric Analysis | 01/07/2010 | |
Thermo Fisher Scientific Offers New Protein Labeling Tools
for Mass Spectrometric Analysis ROCKFORD, Ill. (June 25, 2010) — Thermo Fisher Scientific, the world leader in
serving science, today announced the expansion of its isobaric tandem mass tags
product line with the new Thermo Scientific Cysteine-Reactive Tandem Mass Tag
(cysTMT) Reagents. The cysTMT® Reagents enable protein identification and
quantitation through the selective labeling of cysteine-containing peptides
from complex biological samples. The labeling system can be used in multiplex
analysis of up to six different samples concurrently in an experiment. The cysTMT Reagents label only free sulfhydryl groups on cysteine residues, in contrast to the amine-reactive TMT® Reagents. Labeled peptides are then enriched using the Thermo Scientific Immobilized Anti-TMT Antibody Resin. The cysTMT Reagents and Anti-TMT Resin are effective for reducing sample complexity, improving dynamic range and studying cysteine modifications. The cysTMTzero and cysTMTsixplex Reagents are used as isotopic “light” and “heavy” duplex tags for quantitation at the MS stage. These tags enable quantitation of protein expression changes in cell and tissue samples that might not be amenable to metabolic isotopic labeling strategies (e.g., SILAC). | Thermo Fisher Scientific Introduces New Tools for Phosphopeptide Enrichment and Mass Spectrometric Analysis | 24/06/2010 | |
Thermo Fisher Scientific
Introduces New Tools for Phosphopeptide Enrichment and Mass Spectrometric
Analysis ROCKFORD, Ill. (June 22, 1010) — Thermo Fisher
Scientific, the world leader in serving science, today announced the
availability of the Thermo Scientific Pierce Fe-NTA Phosphopeptide Enrichment
Kit. With the Pierce® Fe-NTA Phosphopeptide Enrichment Kit, scientists can
process protein digests and strong cation exchange fractions to selectively
recover phosphopeptides for mass spectrometric analysis in less than 30
minutes. The Pierce Fe-NTA
Phosphopeptide Enrichment Kit supplies high-capacity Fe-NTA spin columns and
optimized buffer for analyzing 30 protein digests. The phosphopeptide-specific
resin in each spin column will sufficiently enrich up to 150 micrograms of
phosphopeptides. The Pierce Fe-NTA Spin Columns complement other Thermo
Scientific lysis, reduction, alkylation and digestion reagents and graphite
spin columns to provide a complete workflow for phosphopeptide enrichment. For more

| Thermo Fisher Scientific Introduces Two Novel Kits for the Non-radioactive Study of RNA:Protein Interactions | 10/06/2010 | |
The LightShift® RNA EMSA
Kit is the first commercially available kit for research using RNA
electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA). The kit uses a biotinylated RNA
fragment to probe protein samples. RNA:protein complexes are then monitored by
changes in electrophoretic migration patterns. To detect these changes, the kit
uses chemiluminescent detection methods that provide comparable sensitivity to
radioactive detection. The non-radioactive detection method also produces X-ray
results in one to five minutes, a vast improvement over 16-hour exposures
typically needed for radioactive systems. The easy-to-use LightShift RNA EMSA
Kit includes all reagents required to set up and
optimize protein:RNA binding conditions, a positive control for protein:RNA
interactions and reagents for chemiluminescent detection of the nucleic acid
interaction. The system is compatible with biotinylated RNA probes
produced by a variety of methods, including the new Pierce® RNA 3’ End
Biotinylation Kit. The
patent pending Pierce
RNA 3′ End Biotinylation Kit provides the reagents to produce bionylated RNA
probes for use in chemiluminescent detection methods. The labeling reaction
uses an enzymatic approach to ligate a single biotinylated nucleotide to the 3′
end of an RNA strand that is 22 to 450 nucleotides in length. The reaction can
be completed in 30 minutes to two hours. The resultant biotinylated RNA probes
are produced at a fraction of the cost of synthetic biotinylated RNA probes. The method
used by the Pierce RNA 3’ End Biotinylation Kit preserves the RNA probe
structure, which is be important in protein:RNA interaction experiments. The
RNA probes produced by the kit can be used with the LightShift RNA EMSA Kit or
to perform RNA pull-down assays, Northern blots or miRNA profile studies. The complete kit contains an unlabeled RNA strand to use as
a positive control, a biotinylated-RNA probe standard, RNase inhibitor,
glycogen and ligation-enhancing reagents. For more information on
